Adding News

A simple tutorial on how to add a news item to the website

News items appear on the front page of the website. They let members and visitors know what important things are happening that the club may be interested in. Adding them is extremely easy.

Instructions

  1. Log on to the website. Enter your user name and password to log on.
  2. Click on My Folder, at the top right of the screen (see picture below). This displays your personal folder, the location where you will put almost everything that you wish to upload.

  3. Click on Add Item. This displays a menu with several different options for creating content (see picture below). Select News Item.

  4. Type in the fields you see on screen. There are several:
    • Optional - Short Name: It is usually best to leave this blank.
    • Title: a short headline, a few words at most.
    • Description: a little more information, several sentences summarising your news item.
    • Body Text: This is the main part of your item, where you will provide the most detailed information. On the right, you will see a box labelled Text Format. If you do not know HTML or Structured Text, then it is best to change this to Plain Text. Then you can type normally. If you want to use formatting such as bold or italic, then I'm afraid you'll have to learn a little basic HTML.
    • Optional: You can upload an image and give it a caption if you want. This is not necessary.
    • Also Optional: You can relate this News Item to other items or articles. This is not necessary either. You can ignore both the Image secion and the Related Items section if you wish.
  5. When you have finished typing, click "Save" at the bottom of the screen.
  6. Not Optional: You MUST Submit your article for review. At the top right of the screen, in the green bar, there is a State menu (see picture below). Select Submit. This sends a link to a Reviewer (a Council member or the Content Editor) for approval.

If you do not Submit your article, it will not be displayed on the front page!

As always, if there are any questions or if you experience problems, please email the Content Editor for assistance.
