About Beorg-wic

Beorg-wic is the Ancient Arts Fellowship's annual main event, held over the October long weekend.

The previous years the event has been run we have enjoyed enormous success, with around 100 people turning up to each event from over half a dozen different groups, with a high standard of equipment and combat, and over 40 fighters taking part each day.

Where is it located?

The event is run on Danelaw's property in the Southern Highlands, which is situated about 2 hrs drive from Sydney and 1.5 hrs from Canberra. On their excellent site we have built several buildings and improvements in a period style, and are adding to these every year.

Download PDF documents with detailed directions to the site from Canberra or from Sydney. (Adobe Reader required - thanks to Danelaw for providing these).

JPG versions are available for those who for any reason cannot read PDF files.

There are a plethora of suitable camping sites, as well as a number of composting and pit toilets. There is also the possibility of using the showers built by Danelaw at the other end of the site.

What goes on?

Fighting and Archery

The fighting is fun and active. We fight by AAF standard rules, and although there is no limit on the length of spears, those of excessive length will find it rather hard going in the forest. There is also a tournament run every year with a prize based on "counted blows" for armour, which has proved to be a excellent method of conducting these.

On the Archery front there is always plenty happening - archery games and events for all ages and skill levels. Balloon shoots, Archery Kubb and the ever popular Attack Of The Gnomes!

For more information, please contact the AAF's Archery Marshall at archery@aaf.org.au.

Workshops

For those who aren't into fighting, there are always plenty of workshops to get involved in, from glass bead manking, to felting, forging and Roy's famous cider and mead workshop/tasting.

If you have a workshop you want to run or one you really, really want someone else to run let us know. To help us plan resources and timetabling please contact bw.workshops@aaf.org.au

If you want to run a workshop at Beorg-wic, please download the Beorg-wic Workshop Form and return it to us at least a month in advance (so that we can schedule it).

Feasts, Entertainment and Markets

Yes, the AAF will be catering the evening feasts this year!

We will not be able to provide breakfast or lunch, but we have a lot of recipes available and are more than happy to share. See the AAF Cookbook for some ideas.

Markets will be open all weekend. Anyone and everyone who has something to sell is welcome – bring your goods and a blanket and we’ll provide the space to set up!

Smoking Policy

For reasons of cleanliness and protecting the environment, smoking of butted cigarettes on site is PROHIBITED. Cigars, tobacco pipes and roll-your-owns are permitted. Please respect this policy, or you will be escorted off the site.

See you there!

Beorg-wic is a fun and interesting camping event with activities for the whole family, as demonstrated by the good turnout of kids we get every year. Added to this, the cost is minor compared to other events..
