How do I put a picture into a Forum Conversation?

Posted by Andrew Gould at November 30. 2007

Okay, this one's a little bit complicated.

First, I strongly suggest that you use an appropriately sized image. Large images will disrupt the view of the forum. I suggest you upload the image to "My Folder". If you need help reducing the size of the image, email it to me and I'll reduce it to an appropriate size for you.

Then you have to get the URL of the picture. This is the bit that shows in the Address Bar at the top of the browser. It isn't hard - in IE, you can right-click on the picture and select "Copy Shortcut".

The URL will look something like this:

http://www.aaf.org.au/Members/arthwollipot/amanda_small.jpg/view

In your forum post, you must put inside a tag. The tag looks like this:

<img src="http://www.aaf.org.au/Members/arthwollipot/amanda_small.jpg">

You must remove the last part of the URL for it to work! This is generally the part after the last slash (/).

The last part of the URL might read simply "view", but if you have copied the fullscreen version of the image, it will read "image_view_fullscreen". These tags are used by the forum software to determine the template used for viewing the image. Just get rid of them.

The tag is easy to remember - it's "image source", contracted to "img src". Just remove the vowels. Remember to put the URL in double quotes.

Lastly, if you see the "Text Format" list at the top right, make sure it is set to "HTML".

If you've got the tag right, it will look like this:
